Research Internships

MH-ALL research internships are 6-month, part-time internships (1-2 days a week) where we provide funding for time out from your current role to join a research team on an active project. 

These research internships are aimed at staff working in or with mental health care services who have little or no prior experience in research.

What you’ll gain:  

  • Training and understanding of the research process (like ethics, literature review, methods & data collection)  
  • Understanding of how research projects are developed and delivered  
  • New research skills and practical research experience 
  • Research Champion training  

Successful candidates will be offered a placement on a mental health research project. Some examples of past projects that our fellows have been placed on are: 

  • The PATHWAY study (at City, University of London): This study is looking at how to develop and evaluate a new care pathway for complex trauma, to improve how people using mental health services are assessed and referred to appropriate care.  
  • The ASSURED study (at City, University of London): This study is a trial testing the effectiveness and cost-effective of the ASSURED Intervention, which aims to improve support for people with self-harm presenting at A&E. The ASSURED Intervention consists of a therapeutic psychosocial assessment and enhanced and personalised safety plans and rapid follow-up contacts following a solution focused approach.  

Key dates:   

  • Applications open 9am on 12 June 2023  
  • Applications close 11.59pm on 7 August 2023
  • Shortlisting takes place September 2023
  • Internships start in November 2023 (start date flexible and subject to financial administrative tasks being completed)
  • All internships need to end by 30 June 2024
