Need to demonstrate the economic impact of projects in your organisation?
Want to assess the outcomes and sustainability of a new service?
Tasked with carrying out an economic evaluation, but not sure where to start?
In response to the needs of health and care professionals working across our region and beyond, we are offering a new flexible online course, providing a unique opportunity to develop economic evaluation skills with leading trainers, irrespective of previous experience.
The course is intended for frontline staff in health, social care and local government organisations, who have limited experience of conducting economic evaluations and generating evidence to inform decision-making.
The content is inspired by ARC North Thames’ successful Introduction to Economic Evaluation workshop. It will provide you with the opportunity to gain the skills and knowledge you need to undertake your own initial economic evaluation of a local intervention or service, and appraise other evaluations and the evidence they generate.
The course is fully flexible and self-paced, and you can complete it in your own time over a period of nine weeks.
We intend to limit the size of this cohort to 50 places. To best support our partners in the health and social care professional communities during this challenging time, we will be offering 30 free places to members of any organisation partnered with NIHR ARC North Thames, NIHR ARC South West Peninsula (PenARC) and NIHR ARC Yorkshire and Humber (YHARC).
The cost to members of non-partner organisations is £150 (£180 inc. VAT), this fee is also applicable to members of partner organisations if the free places have already been filled. As demand is expected to be high, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible if you would like to participate.
There are very few introductory courses for carrying out economic evaluations of services and innovations, and so we have developed this course to meet the growing training needs of the health and care community.
The course will:
Participants will receive a certificate of completion if they complete at least 80% of the course activities, which can be exchanged for CPD credits. Please direct any queries regarding CPD credit exchange to the relevant team within your organisation.
This course is tailored for frontline staff in health, social care and local government organisations who need to evaluate local programmes or services from an economic perspective as part of their work. It is not aimed at academics or researchers.
No previous knowledge of economics is required (or experience of study design and statistics), however an interest in economics and being comfortable with numbers is advantageous.
We invite applications from individuals who are carrying out, or will soon need to carry out, an economic evaluation of a service or intervention. Opportunities for one-to-one consultations about your evaluation plans will be included as part of this course.
As an introductory level course, Economic Evaluation Online is an excellent primer for more advanced courses of study. We have included these links at the end of this page.
The course opens on 2 October and is designed to be flexible and self-paced over a ten-week period. We expect that on average participants will require a total of 12 hours across the ten weeks (2 October to 8 December) to complete the course.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion if they complete at least 80% of the course activities, which can be exchanged for CPD credits. Please direct any queries regarding CPD credit exchange to the relevant team within your organisation.
