ARC North Thames representatives join event championing inclusivity in healthcare research

26 May 2023

On Thursday 25 May, ARC North Thames was delighted to participate in a Barts Health Trust / QMUL event to mark International Clinical Trials Day 2023. This year's event, entitled "Inclusive Healthcare Research: The Conversation Continues", served to illuminate how equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) must be considered an integral part of healthcare research practice.

ARC North Thames' Public and Patient Involvement & Engagement (PPIE) Lead, William Lammons, led dialogue between two members of our Research Advisory Panel, Sudhir Shah and Martin Fisher. Sudhir joined our PPIE team in 2014 and Martin in 2022; as such, they were able to consider in conversation their experiences of working alongside researchers to improve engagement with under-served communities varying public perspectives, what has changed over time, and what opportunities continue to emerge for future collaboration.

The event also offered an opportunity for our lay panel members to network with healthcare professionals, researchers, study participants and members of our local communities to share ideas and views, to help us build a truly inclusive research environment.
