Disability data in UK higher education: Evidence from EDI reports

PROJECT STATUS: Ongoing
/
START DATE AND DURATION: April 22
Summary

Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) have legal requirements to monitor and publish data as part of the public sector equality duty (PSED) of the Equality Act (2010) (Advance HE). However, it is unclear how this data is being utilised and what is actually reported with regards to staff disability. In this research we will:

  • Assess whether UK HEIs publish staff data via Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) reports.
  • Examine whether existing EDI reports include information on staff disability.
  • Identify the level of detail with regards to staff disability, as reported in EDI reports.
  • Explore whether the existence of EDI reports and focus on staff disability varies by institution type, geography and over time.
