Fresh Street: Evaluating the impact of a place-based household subsidy for fresh fruit and vegetables on diet and health

PROJECT STATUS: Ongoing
/
START DATE AND DURATION: October 2020
Summary

This project addresses an issue of major strategic public health importance – how to support sustainable and healthy diets and food systems in areas of high deprivation in the UK.

The Fresh Street scheme offers households weekly vouchers for fresh fruit and vegetables (value of £5) along with recipes. All households are eligible regardless of size, type or income. Vouchers are redeemable only with local independent fresh fruit and veg suppliers (not supermarkets).

This project is testing the impact of the Fresh Street scheme on fruit and vegetable consumption, diet quality and health using a cluster randomised controlled trial (RCT) and process evaluation methods.
