Investigating the utility of machine learning methods to predict prognosis and guide treatment decisions for people with lung cancer (Lung-ORACLE)

PROJECT STATUS: Ongoing
/
START DATE AND DURATION: September 2022
Summary

Lung cancer is the leading cause of death from cancer worldwide. There are many different treatments available for those with lung cancer, with doctors and patients faced with making difficult decisions regarding the best treatment course to take. Machine learning (ML) can be used to help guide what treatments would work best for different people.

This research aims to improve treatment decisions for lung cancer patients. Within this scope, it seeks to:

  • Better understand clinician and patient perspectives of ML tools in the healthcare setting
  • Develop an online tool that uses ML to accurately predict patient survival following differing treatment courses and provide information on quality-of-life impact
